Activating the function: menu "File", "Import Data"
The function "Import Data" allows to re-load training-verbsets, irregular verb-infos as well as statistical counters that were exported with Coniuno before. To import own text-files (e.g. from a vocabulary-trainer), see import own data (own text-files etc).
You can for example use the Import Data function to load back data to Coniuno after you upgraded your Coniuno-version.
The data-import differentiates in the same way as the data-export between training-verbset data, irregular verb-info data and data for the statistical counters. After you have started the function, select a data-file (your backup-copy) by clicking the button "Select Datafile". Coniuno now does an analysis of the data included in the file and depending on that activates the training-verbset, irregular verb-info or statistical data import functions. If the file is not readable or does not contain Coniuno-data, then an according error-message is shown.
When importing training-verbsets, Coniuno activates all training-verbsets and languages that were found in the import-file. If you don't want to import all verbsets or all found languages, then you can avoid an import by deactivating the corresponding check-boxes. To have a clear view about the used files, the currently used verbfile is displayed in the import training verbsets window. When importing irregular verb-infos, Coniuno shows the languages for that verb-infos are contained in the import file. Please note that during the import of the statistical counters the current counter-values are overwritten, respectively are complemented (see note further below). The import-options (see next paragraphs) are not available here.
Important: you start the actual import of the data to Coniuno by clicking the button "Import Data".
For the data import three further options are available, which are:
When using option 1, Coniuno will compare its own data with the data included in the backup-file and will only add new data to the Coniuno data. By that Coniuno prevents the existence of double data after the import. This is particularly useful if you want to install a new version of Coniuno that has new language modules. Your old verbs will then be complemented with the verbs of the new language(s).
With option 2 the Coniuno data are deleted and replaced by the data from the backup-file. If for example you want to replace the entire data from training-verbset "verbset 2" with a saved version of your personal training-verbset, then use this option.
With option 3 the Coniuno data are extended by the data from the import file. When using this option it can happen that entries are doubled in case the data in the import file is identical with the Coniuno data.
Hints when importing statistical data
When statistical data for the function "Statistics, Overview" is imported, then Coniuno overwrites its current counter values with the ones from the import file.
When statistical data for the function "Statistics, Verbdetails" is imported, then Coniuno compares the existing data with the import data. New data (verbs) are added, existing data (verbs) are replaced.
Hints to backup-files
When importing data, the original Coniuno files are overwritten. For safety-reasons Coniuno stores backup-copies of the respectively last original Coniuno-files in the Coniuno installation directory (normally C:\Program Files\Coniuno, e.g. Coniuno_verbs.sav or for Spanish verb-infos Coniuno_settings_save.spa). If however the data import is repeated, then Coniuno overwrites these backup-copies again with the accordingly newer backups.
