Options, General

Activating the function: menu "Modules", "Conjugation Training, Options", "General"

The following general settings can be done:

Language Options

Mother tongue and training language

In the area Language-Options you can choose the language that shall be trained.

The selection list "Mother tongue" contains the source language. This is the language in that the searched for sentences are shown. The selection list "Training language (searched verb)" defines the target language. This is the language in that you shall translate the verb.

Currently eight languages are available for both selection lists:

The option "show verb in mother tongue" allows the suppression of the verb in the source language. Normally Coniuno shows the verb in the mother tongue (e.g. to go) as well as the sentence that needs to be translated (e.g. I was gone). If this option is deactivated, then only the sentence that shall be translated is shown.

The option "show auxiliary verb" controls whether below the verb in mother tongue also the auxiliary verb for building combined tenses will be shown.

When changing the training-language, Coniuno loads the available verbs and language-specific options (irregular verb-infos) for that language. The correct/false counters (main-screen) as well as a possible training-limitation for that training however remain unchanged.

The respectively chosen languages are shown in the first status-panel of the main-screen when training the verb-conjugations. In addition the respective country-flags, respectively the Roman city emblem for Latin is shown.

Active and passive Verbs

Behaviour

These options can be used to define Coniuno's behaviour during training. The following options are available:

  • If correct, directly continue

If this option is activated, then Coniuno chooses after a correctly given solution automatically the next verb. The correct answer remains visible on the main-screen until the next verb is entered and checked by Coniuno. If this option is not activated, then the correct answer remains as well, just Coniuno does not choose the next verb by itself. This is only done after pressing button "next verb" on the main-screen.

  • Analyse faults

If this option is activated, then a faulty solution will be analysed. For more details regarding this topic, also see "analysis of wrong solutions". If this option is not activated, then the answer: "<solution> is wrong" is given instead.

  • Limitations for verb-selection

Here you can define whether further criteria shall be considered when choosing the training-verbs. These are the indications about regular/irregular verbs as well as reflexive verbs:

    Regular verbs:

all verbs no further limitations apply
only regular verbs only regular verbs are selected
only irregular verbs only irregular verbs are selected

    Reflexive verbs:

all verbs no further limitations apply
no reflexive verbs only normal, non-reflexive verbs are selected
only reflexive verbs only reflexive verbs are selected

Information about searched verb

These options can be used to control the various help information in the window area "information about current verb" during training. The following options are available:

  • Show person, mood and tense

If this option is activated, then Coniuno shows the searched person (singular / plural) as well as the searched mood and tense (e.g. indicative, present).
If this option is deactivated, then this indication will be suppressed.

  • Show verb-characteristics (e.g. reflexive, passive or irregular verbs)

If this option is activated then Coniuno informs about particularities of the searched verb. This is the information whether a verb is built with its reflexive forms (e.g. to wash oneself), whether a verb is built in passive-tense as well as information regarding irregular verbs (e.g. an Italian verb is built like ~dere => ~dere is shown etc.). Also see administer irregular verb-infos and conjugation rules.
The indication of reflexive or passive verbs is done on the main-screen as text "reflexive" or "passive" in the upper right corner of the info-area. The indication regarding irregular verbs is done in the information field "verb-characteristics".

  • The option "show auxiliary verb" controls whether below the verb in the training language also the auxiliary verb for building combined tenses will be shown.

  • Always show verb translation

If this option is activated, then Coniuno automatically shows the French, Italian etc. translation of the searched verbs. If this option is not activated, then the verb can also be translated manually later on (also see main-screen).

  • Always show solution

If this option is activated, then Coniuno always automatically shows the wanted solution. If this option is not activated, then the solution can also be shown manually later on (also see main-screen).

  • Synchronize with verb table

During training you can load the Coniuno-Verb table for the training language by pressing F4. If the verb table is open, then this option makes Coniuno automatically load the current verb in the verb table. By that you receive the verb table kept for you in background like a book opened always on the right page.

If this option is deactivated then the verb table only is updated if you press F4.

If the verb table is not open, then this option has no effect.

For further information, also see show searched verb in verb table.

Start options

These options can be used to configure various other functions of Coniuno. Currently the following options are available:

  • Start conjugation training I

If this option is activated, then the module Conjugation Training I is started automatically during start of the program.

  • Start conjugation training II

If this option is activated, then the module Conjugation Training II is started automatically during start of the program.

  • Show training-hint at start

If this option is activated, then a welcome-screen is shown at start of Coniuno including a training-hint. This hint considers the tenses that you trained so far, the correctly entered solutions as well as possibly made errors. Resulting from that, Coniuno proposes one or two tenses that could possibly be trained. To change the training-tenses, see options: German, Dutch, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish or Latin. Times that have never been trained so far are not considered.

If this option is not activated, then Coniuno starts without showing the training-hint.

After the program has been started, you can show the current training-tip via the menu "Extras, Show Training Hint". This is also useful if you change the training-language, since you can receive a new training-hint without the need to restart the program.

  • "Show insert symbol" at start

If this option is activated, then the function "Extras, Insert Symbol" is called automatically during start of the program (also see Insert symbols).

  • "Show conjugation scheme" at start

If this option is activated, then the function "Modules, Conjugation Scheme" is called automatically during start of the program (also see conjugation scheme).

Menu Language

This option allows you to switch between German and English as Coniuno-language. The graphical user-interface, the menus, messages and dialogues as well as the help-file is switched from German to English and opposite accordingly.

Hint: After changing the language, Coniuno needs to be restarted to take the change into effect.

Restore default values

By clicking button "Default Values" the default values for all options are restored (general options as well as options of the language-modules).

Hint

If options are changed that influence the current training, then Coniuno automatically chooses the next verb after leaving the options-screen in order to directly consider the new settings. If options are changed that do not influence the current training (e.g. changing a Spanish option if French is being trained), then Coniuno does not choose a new verb.
